Clarks 'Doodles' (kids shoes) and some thoughts on finger-painting them
I love painting shoes so much and I know I'm not the only one in the Flickr community who loves doing them. There are loads of things that sort of guarantee the thing will work.
Scale and proportion are fairly easy to get right but for me the challenge is in the textures. I was wary that the canvas texture on these would prove too much before I strated doing the Clarks ones. 'Brushes' for iPad allows you to playback any drawing you've done, the movie of the one below shows I re-worked the canvas area 10-15 times. I am loving the luxury of the space and 6 layers to paint on, it's a good limiting factor and forces me to separate sketch, base layer, details, textures and shadows/highlights. Enough to convey what I want to show but not so much that I get lost in music. Speaking of which, I listened exclusively to, Foals - 'Total life forever', Villagers - 'becoming a jackal' and Laura Marling - 'I speak because I can', maybe 7 times over for each while doing this, all of them are, in their own way amazing.
